45° 3R Elbow Dimensions
Here's a 45° elbow on a three-diameter centerline radius. It puts together the gradual half turn of a 45 with the wide sweep of a 3R bend, for dem lines where both the direction change and the erosion rate gotta be kept mighty gentle.
A specialty turn.
Y'all reach for this when a 45° offset is sittin' in some abrasive or high-velocity service, and a standard 1.5D bend would just wear right out on the outside of the turn. Conveyin' lines, slurry headers, and sand-laden production pipin' is where you'll usually find 'em.
Check dat space.
The three-diameter radius makes this a long fittin' for the turn it produces. Make sure y'all confirm the center-to-end from the table before committin' to the spool layout.
How To Read Dese Dimensions
Just like its 90 degree counterpart, a 45 on a three-diameter radius sits outside both ASME B16.9 and ASME B16.28. It's a manufacturer-standard fittin' with ASME B16.25 weldin' ends and the usual ASTM material grades, so dat center-to-end A below is the figure y'all need to design around.

- O.D.
- Outside diameterOutside diameter at the weldin' end, matchin' up perfect with the pipe it welds to.
- I.D.
- Inside diameterBore right through the fitting, set by dat wall thickness.
- T
- Wall thicknessNominal wall at the weldin' end, matched to the pipe schedule.
- A
- Center to endFrom the intersection of the centerlines to the welding face. Dat three-diameter radius makes this longer than a standard 45, so y'all better check it against the spool before committin'.

Questions Folks Ask Us
What is a 45 degree 3R elbow?
Dat's a 45° butt weld elbow whose centerline bend radius is three times the nominal pipe diameter, rather than the 1.5 times used on a standard long radius elbow. Dat wider sweep cuts down on turbulence and spreads the erosion over more of the outside wall, I tell you what.
When is a 3R worth it over a standard 45, reckon?
When dat line is abrasive, runnin' high velocity, or carryin' solids, and wear at dem bends is what's drivin' your maintenance schedule. Now in clean, moderate-velocity service, dat standard 1.5D fitting is the sensible choice, I tell you what.
Do y'all stock 45° 3R elbows?
Now, what we got available depends on the size, schedule, and material. Just send us dat size, schedule, and grade, and we'll let y'all know right quick what's sittin' on the floor and what we gotta order from the mill.
