Steel Pipe

Pipe On The Same Order As Your Flanges

Texas Flange has supplied pipe flanges since 1986, and the pipe they weld to comes from the same counter. Carbon, stainless and alloy steel pipe ships with your flanges, butt weld fittings, gaskets and stud bolts, so one purchase order covers the whole line.

Pipe is supplied seamless or welded, with mill test reports (MTRs) available. The schedule chart below gives the outside diameter, wall thickness, inside diameter and weight per foot for every common size and schedule, to ASME B36.10M.

Pipe We Supply

Carbon Steel Pipe

Seamless and welded carbon steel pipe to ASTM A106, A53 and API 5L, the grades that pair with A105 flanges and A234 WPB fittings.

Stainless Steel Pipe

Seamless and welded stainless pipe to ASTM A312 in 304/304L and 316/316L, to match A182 stainless flanges and A403 fittings.

Alloy & Low-Temperature Pipe

Chrome-moly pipe to ASTM A335 and low-temperature carbon pipe to A333, for the same services as our F11, F22 and LF2 flanges.

Need the fittings and flanges for the same line? See butt weld fittings, weld neck flanges and the weld neck flange bore chart.

Pipe Schedule Chart

Dimensions in inches to ASME B36.10M. Weight is the calculated plain-end weight of carbon steel pipe in pounds per foot; stainless runs about 2% heavier.

Steel Pipe, Explained

What does pipe schedule mean?

The schedule number sets the wall thickness for a given nominal pipe size. The outside diameter stays the same for every schedule of one size, so a heavier schedule has a thicker wall and a smaller bore. Schedule 40 and 80 are the most common; STD, XS and XXS are the older weight classes that sit alongside them.

Is Schedule 40 the same as STD?

Up to and including NPS 10, yes: Schedule 40 and STD have the same wall. From NPS 12 up, STD stays at 0.375″ while Schedule 40 keeps getting heavier, so the two part ways. Schedule 80 and XS follow the same pattern up to NPS 8. Check the chart before treating them as the same thing on a spec.

What is the difference between nominal pipe size and outside diameter?

Nominal pipe size (NPS) is a name, not a measurement. From NPS 1/8 through 12 the actual outside diameter is larger than the nominal size, so 2″ pipe is 2.375″ OD. From NPS 14 up, the outside diameter equals the nominal size.

Should I specify seamless or welded pipe?

Seamless pipe has no longitudinal weld, which is why it is the usual choice for high pressure, high temperature and cyclic service. Welded pipe costs less and is widely used for lower pressure and larger diameters. The piping code and service conditions on your job decide which one is allowed.

Can I order pipe on the same order as my flanges?

Yes. Texas Flange supplies pipe alongside its flanges, butt weld fittings, gaskets, stud bolts and nuts, so one purchase order covers the whole line. Mill test reports (MTRs) are available. Send the size, schedule, specification, grade and length, and we will quote it with the rest of the order.
